Spotlight on South Philly: Amado and Agustin Sandovar
One of Night Market Philadelphia's main goals is to support the immigrant business owners who make our city's mobile food scene so delicious. This our last installment in a series spotlighting local food entrepreneurs from all four corners of our 2017 Night Market map!
Blue Corn only opened three years ago but has already established itself as an Italian Market gem. When brothers Amado and Agustin immigrated to Philly from San Mateo Ozolco in Puebla Mexico with several other family members, they wanted to bring a taste of home to the U.S.
The name Blue Corn was inspired by a factory in their hometown that processed blue corn into several different products. The restaurant focuses specifically on Mexico City eats, which is influenced by all parts of Mexico and represents a melting pot of cuisines throughout the country.
Their must-try eats? The same ones they enjoyed as kids, including the sopecitos, gorditas and alambres.
Don't forget to seek out Blue Corn (940 S. Ninth St.) on October 5!
